Various activities planned to celebrate Earth Day

from The Northern Light (April 15,2008)

Earth Day is coming up on April 22 and a number of activities are being planned locally in conjunction with this annual event.

On April 19, representatives from the Daly Point Nature Reserve will be at the City Farmers' Market, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. with an Earth Day Kiosk.

It will be set up at the Bathurst Sustainable Development Environmental Resource Centre with displays and information on protecting eco systems, endangered species, coastal wetlands, and features of Daly Point.

Earth Day pins will be available as well.

On April 22 itself, there'll be tree plantings at the Daly Point Nature Reserve. The City of Bathurst and Bathurst Sustainable Development (will each plant a tree to commemorate the city and BSD becoming members of the Atlantic Canada Sustainability Initiative and the adoption of the Cities Sustainability Vision 2020.

BSD will be planting their tree next to the city tree to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Bathurst Sustainable Development and as a symbol of their sustainability partnership with the City of Bathurst.

(This event will be postponed until later in the spring if the snow is still heavy and the ground too frozen.)

On Earth Day, Bathurst Sustainable Development is also encouraging area residents to leave their vehicle at home and participate in sustainable and active modes of transportation which are low carbon

April 22 will also see two climate change presentations of "An Inconvenient Truth," to be conducted by official Climate Change Messenger Carl Duivenvoorden at Ecole Secondaire Nepisiguit.
